Why Austin teams book an on-site headshot day

Austin hires fast, and it hires in clusters. Technology is the loudest industry, from large software and hardware employers to the startups around downtown and the Domain. State government is the steadier one: the Capitol sits downtown and agencies fill buildings around it. The University of Texas adds research, health and administration. Then there are healthcare, consulting, finance and a growing professional services crowd.

Each cluster uses headshots a little differently:

  • Startups and scale-ups: investor decks, "meet the team" pages, and fresh portraits after every funding round.
  • Software and hardware companies: recruiting pages, conference speaker bios and customer-facing account teams.
  • Government and public affairs: staff directories, board books and public-facing bios.
  • Health and research groups: faculty and provider pages, plus grant and clinical materials.

The common thread is turnover. A tech team that doubles in a year ends up with a patchwork of selfies, old LinkedIn crops and Zoom screenshots. One scheduled day replaces the lot and sets a standard new hires can slot into.

How a headshot day works in an Austin office

Austin offices skew casual, which helps. Many are open floor plans in converted warehouses, East Austin buildings, or low-rise campuses in Round Rock and Cedar Park. We need one corner we can darken or tame: a conference room, a training room, even a quiet end of an open plan with a pop-up backdrop.

Here is how a normal day runs:

  1. Book. Choose a date and send the 50% retainer to hold it.
  2. Pick a spot. About 10 by 20 feet and one outlet. We can work with what you have.
  3. Set up. Our crew arrives roughly an hour before the first session.
  4. Shoot. Each person takes two to three minutes in front of the lens.
  5. Pick favorites. People see images immediately or in a private gallery and choose one.
  6. Deliver. Retouched finals usually land within one to two weeks, plus a roster page for HR or marketing.

Downtown towers and state-adjacent buildings may want a certificate of insurance, which is available on request. Event days around South Congress or downtown can tighten parking, so tell us about road closures when you book.

What does a corporate headshot day cost in Austin?

A half day costs $3,600 and a full day costs $4,850. Both are flat day rates, with travel from Orange County included, so Austin pricing does not change with the number of people you bring in. That makes it easy to budget.

Package Flat rate Typical headcount Illustrative cost per person
Half Day $3,600 ~50–60 people ~$60–$72
Full Day $4,850 ~150–250 people ~$19–$32
Multi-set or multi-day Quoted Larger or multi-site teams Quoted after a short call

These per-person numbers are only illustrations of the math. If your 55-person company shoots a half day, that is about $65 each. Retouching of the selected image is included, and usage rights let the company and each employee use the final headshots commercially.

Multi-office companies with an Austin location

Austin is often the second or third office for a company headquartered on the coasts. Photos from the main office look one way. Photos from the Austin team look another. That mismatch shows up on About pages and in sales decks.

We fix it by running the same lighting and background recipe at every location and sending the same lead photographer when we can. It is Kemp's internal crew every time, never freelancers hired locally. Our Sentry Insurance project, with 552 headshots over offices in 12 states in roughly a month, shows how a multi-site rollout runs from one playbook.

Austin headshot day FAQ

How much does an Austin headshot day cost? It is a flat rate. $3,600 buys a half day, good for about 50 to 60 people, and $4,850 buys a full day, good for about 150 to 250. There is no travel line item because we build it in. A bigger employer, or one with offices across the region, gets a quote.

We are a small startup with 25 people. Is a headshot day worth it? Honestly, a half day at $3,600 works best at around 50 people, so at 25 the per-head math is higher. It still makes sense if you want a studio-quality look for the whole company, plan to hire soon, or want leadership and new hires shot in one pass.

Our team works hybrid. How do we get everyone in the room? Pick the day your in-office schedule overlaps most and announce the day a couple of weeks ahead, and Kemp Photography manages the schedule. Sessions are two to three minutes, so people can drop in between meetings. Remote hires can be added to a later follow-up day.

Can the headshots work for both LinkedIn and our website? Kemp Photography delivers the retouched final ready for web use, and usage rights let the company and each pictured person use it commercially, from the website to LinkedIn to press. Kemp keeps the copyright. One portrait serves every channel, so nobody needs a second shoot for a different platform.

Is there a lead time for scheduling in Austin? About 14 days of notice usually works, depending on our schedule. Book earlier for the most date choices, since Austin calendars fill around big festival weeks. The 50% retainer reserves the date, and we confirm room, headcount and building rules with you before our crew travels.

Do you work out of office parks as well as downtown towers? Yes. Suburban office parks are usually easier because parking sits next to the door. For downtown towers, tell us about freight elevator and load-in rules early so we can plan. A certificate of insurance is available on request, and we only need one quiet room of about 10 by 20 feet.

Also serving Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth and Phoenix.
